What would you do when you burn out!? In education, we talk about teachers experience burning out after teaching for a long time. What is that so called "burn out" anyway...?
"Burn out" happens when you do the same thing over and over for a long period of time that you forget to put your mind in it, in other word, you don't care what you do anymore. It becomes the matter of get it done. At least, that's what I understand.
Can student also get to the point of burning out?
I'm not saying that I don't care about school. As the matter of fact, I'm graduating. My defense exam is right around the corner. If everything goes well, I will be done by this coming Thursday. Isn't that exciting??
Yea... it's exciting, and that's the problem because I don't feel all excited!!
Perhaps, I'm so ready to move on that my mind is not focusing on school stuff anymore. Could it be that I'm burning out of being in school? or maybe not!?
I have been in the state long enough that I don't really know where my home truly is. Bangkok is surely different from 6 years ago. But the feeling of living here in the state any longer is not really in my mind. Why do I wanna go back badly even though I'm not sure that it would be a home like it used to?? Perhaps, being jailed overnight because of the careless workers at the international student advising office had turned me off badly. Perhaps, it was some bad experiences during the school years. I don't really know...
Well, regardless of those bad experience, I'm thankful for all of my professors now who have been so nice and kind to me. I met cool friends who I wish to keep in touch after moving back to Thailand. Guys! if you are reading this, let's have a party before I go back and don't forget to keep me post where ever you are!!
I would say that I'm glad we met. There are not many of you throughout my years in the US. When you leave school, you know that only true friends will stay in touch.
Burning out or not, I hope that I pass the defense exam on this Thursday. I'll do my best. Wish me luck then.....

I came across this girl from one website that has the link to her performance posted on YouTube.
It's not so often to see a cute saxophonist, though this is a smooth jazz. So, I just wanna share wit you guys.

Mario
I guess people who age more than 20 are supposed to know Mario, the classic computer game from Nintendo. The adventure of Mario to rescue princess from Kupa (the dragon, I presumed) fulled with adventure and excitement that hard to refuse. The game has so much to offer for kids. However, one thing that I had never noticed was the great of music of this game.
Well... You may say that I'm Innocent for never imagine that someone would actually play the Mario theme songs. Or even if they play, what is so great about it!?
Playing Mario Theme Song on solo instrument or put harmony to it and play on guitar or piano is cool... but what if they arrange for a whole band? I'd say that is even better!! Imagine seeing a choir or oboe quartet perform the tune in the concert hall... Now, who said that those kind of band could perform only classical music. I think the musician has wisdom to choose what to perform and they enjoy their music as well as the audience.
Check this out.. There are Mario songs I found on YouTube.com

EWI
It might be when one of my favorite japanese fusion jazz group, T-Square, played Omen of Love that I got lure into the jazz realm. Though it was a small portion of jazz and I was just a high school kid, the band sounded so cool that I wanted to make it my own. There were VDO clips of T-Square concert that I found on the Internet. Masato Honda was a wind player of the T-Square playing one weird instrument with the look of wind instrument but has cable wired up just like electronic instrument. I, later, learned that it was an "EWI," a wind controllor that allows you to blow just like wind instrument throught sound synthesizer.
Unfortunately, I can't find that Omen of Love clip anymore. But here is the same tune by the same people that I found on YouTube.com
After discovering the T-Squear and EWI, my interest was pretty much on fusion jazz and later lead to smooth jazz. Something like the clip that you can see below.
Sadly, such commercial liked music are not quite welcome at UNT. I found myself learning and playing a different kind of jazz. EWI were kept into the other side of my music circle, like hobby. Until recently I discovered that the big name in Jazz such as Michael Brecker had also played EWI for a long time. Check this out and you will see the nearly unlimitted possibility of EWI.
And you might as well want to see this clip by Steve Tavaglione, the music composer for CSI series, showing what EWI could do with music studio production.

Blogger with Gmail
It has been awhile since my last post on this blog. Actually, I was busy with something else that I almost didn't look at this stuff at all. Then... when I sign in today, the blogger has its new feature. Now you can transfer your blogger account to your Gmail account in order to login the blog. I don't really know what the difference is, but I transfered my account anyway.
Well... with that being said, I decided to post something. As you can see... there is no content to this post at all... ha ha...
Thanks for reading ^^;
I will post something with more meat next time.

King of Thailand
Well, I have written about Thai's revolution. Perhaps, it would be a good idea if I will present something about our king as well.
This 3 clips from YouTube.com will show you why Thai people love the king so much.
Note: Retrieved from http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=60+years+of+a+working+monarch+
PS. All of music using on the clip were the king's composition.

Thailand's Silk Revolution
From my last post about I-20 issue, here is a link to my MSN blog if you want to read more about the progress: http://notebank.spaces.live.com/
Thank you everyone for cheering me up and always asking for the progress of the case. I'm appreciated your care.
Ok, let's talk about the Thailand's Silk Revolution. I don't know why they call it "Silk Revolution," but this title is from Time.com. You can read more detail from:
http://www.time.com/time/asia/covers/501060417/story.html
Since the revolution took place, I've been talking with friends regarding this matter. For Thais, this is not the end of the world. As the matter of fact, Thailand has been under revolution quite often, 2-3 times in my life time at least, and most of Thais are not really excited with this. I didn't say that we don't pay attention to the situation, but it is nothing to be panic.
Personally, I don't have anything against this revolution. Unlike the prior Thai's revolution, I'm quite relief that this time it happened quick and peacefully. However, let me make myself clear on one thing. That I agreed with this military act was not only because I didn't like the Thaksin's government (Thaksin was the Thai's prime minister before the revolution)but the political conflict that had been running between the government and groups of people who wanted him to be gone was going on and on without any sign of ending. Thaksin is one of the richest guy in Thailand, and with that, he has power! I could say that he almost bought the country by paying everyone in order to get what he want. His party became the biggest party in Thailand after only 1 year of establishment. For many reasons, I don't see that he would let go of his power anytime soon. Even if he were forced to step down, he would undoubtedly use someone as his puppet anyway.
Being forced to step down by military might be the absolute end to the conflict. If Thaksin still remained in his power, I'm afraid that he might have hurt our country even more. (How? man... that is another long topic. I'd rather not discuss here.)
Only sad thing from this revolution is that it is a sign of democracy failure. It means since the last revolution, when people shed blood, our country did not go any where. Democracy in Thailand is still being used only to serve the greed of some groups of people. How sad!!
Here are pictures that I got from Thai's website:

...
Perhaps, it's time to write something. After the second week of school had passed. One of the most frequency asked questions when you meet people is "how was your summer?"
Well, I already moved into a new apartment, and now I'm living alone. My brother and my ex-roommate have already gone back to Thailand. It has been awhile since the last time when I didn't have a roommate. This could be good, perhaps, since it is so quiet at home, or I could be death with the loneliness.
Since the school started, it's always hard for me to answer when people asked the question, "how was your summer?" I wasn't sure what to say... It was crazy, but I didn't know whether or not I should cry it out lound for everyone to know. But since many of my friends have already known. I guess that it is ok to talk about it.
My I-20 had expired since 31 December 2005 without notice. UNT Internation Office said that they sent 3 reminder e-mails, but I'd never seen them. Funny enough, I was in school for both Spring and Summer I and working at the computer lab all the time. UNT paid me twice a month. Guess what!? In July, I got someone from immigration office came looking for me, and I figured out later that UNT was the one that turned me in. Since it happened, I need to worry about what to do and whether or not I have to go back to my country.
As a consequence, many things had happened before the school start. Only thing I felt was that it was so unfair for a student who just forgot to renew I-20. But... what can I do?? Now I can't work at all... Have to pay full "out of state" tuition rate. This makes me totally broke now. How sad!
Life could be suck sometimes. And it is kindda funny that my trouble right now could be fixed with money. (whether I have to go back or stay here, I'd need to spend a lot of money during the process.) and for that.... I'm sorry dad....
Another day, I went out to the UNT hearing center to be a subject in doctoral research for my friend's friend, and guess what happened. I got ticket on the way there. Ok.. Here is a question! If I wasn't nice and wanna help out someone who I didn't really know, I wouldn't have gone out that day. As a result, I wouldn't get a ticket. Of course, I might be driving a bit faster than usual that day, but it was because I didn't wanna be late. This was the second time of this year when I got in trouble because of trying to help someone. The first time was in Spring. I was at home and got a call from the computer lab asking me to help out the guest artist of the composition department who was trying to do something on Finale. I drove out and got hit by another car at the parking lot. It costed me $70 to fix my car. Both times, they weren't my business at all. I was just being nice and wanna help them out.
Anyway, Buddha said that you shouldn't let obstacle stop your good action, being nice in this case. I guess that I would do what's supposed to be "right" and follow my believe. Right! I shouldn't let those thing stop me.

Old !?
I was working at the computer lab and hearing young kids playing jazz tunes, tunes that I used to learn and play not too long before coming to the U.S.
Blues Bossa, Song for my farther, St. Thomas, Autumn Leaves, and else....
Funny enough, some of those tunes are still in my playing list now. Blues Bossa, for example, is still be played almost every weeks on my gig at Thai Ocha.
Once, Oscar Garza told me that everyone are working on the same thing but only at different level. That might be true.
Anyhow, hearing those kids played, how they played, really reminded me of the old day... how I started, and why I'm here.....
I don't know how far I had come or whether those inspiration had faded away somewhere...
Damn!! What am I talking like the old guy for??

Yo!
It is good to know that some of my friends are actually reading this blog.
I know for sure that my Thai friends wouldn't come here often since it is written in English, and I didn't know whether or not my international friends would read this.
Basically, I've been kindda using this blog as excuse to practice my writing skill.
Well,... Since you're already here, it would be nice if you could leave some comments, correct my grammar if I wrote something wrong, or give some suggestions to the writing style. Maybe you know what I meant, but there might be a better way to say it.
Any help would be appreciated ^^;

Being musician, being curse !?
Today during the conducting class, we were talking about how to make career in music.
One of the classmate said that being a musician is like being curse because you just don't want to do something else beside music.
Plus most of musician make less money than other career too!
Actually, this has been one of topics discussing in the class for awhile.
Neil kept telling us stories about how hard to be in music career. At the same time, he got many good stories of successful players, and I can see how great those people were. Stories like that are inspiring, but it is not like that I can see myself to become one... At least, not yet!
Sometimes, I even asked myself what I'm doing here.
Many times I see those good players in school, see their passion in music. I started to ask myself whether I have that passion or not.
Even though I'm not good yet, I can't see myself doing something else. How would it be if I don't play music !?
I just can't imagine that.
Perhaps, this is why I'm still in music. I'm one of them who is cursed to have passion in music.

Good Old Day
Last week my ex-roommate came back to visit us.
Jason had been my roommate for 2 years before he graduate and went back to California.
He got married with Kate after moving back, and that was 1 year ago.
Guest what!? Now Kate get pregnant and they are expecting to see the baby on this November.
I'm so happy for them, and it was really nice to see them again.
A true friend is hard to find especially when you live far away from homeland. Jason is one of a good-at-heart person I have known, and he is a strong christian too!
I'm sure that god has blessed and looked up on him.
Note: Here is a video clip I got from Youtube.com
Quite interesting, isn't it?

Summer Summer, Yeah!
It has been a month since Spring semester had done.
Now I'm taking 2 classes for Summer I semester.
One of them is an arranging for marching band which I'm so excited.
The class is really interesting and Dr.Fisher is really nice to me.
But arranging class could never be difference. We have many transcriptions to do.
Next week we might actually start to write something for the band...
Man!! This is fun!!

Music Computer Lab
I found myself updating this blog once a month.
Well, this is not a good number.
I should have written something more often.
Sometimes I wonder whether my life is too boring that I don't have anything to write or my laziness to write in English is just too much. (I update the Thai blog a lot more often than this blog)
Whatever that is, from this month, I will try to write more often.
Some people said that working in the music computer lab is the best job you can have on campus next to the TA and TF.
I agree... Not only you can play computer all day long during the work when it is not busy, but could you pay in-state rate for the tuition fee which is a lot cheaper than the full out of state tuition rate.
If you work in the lab 20 hours per week as I do, you would start to remember people face and know the station number that they want. At least, you would know what OS they use, Mac or PC.
I love to see people, so the job at the computer lab is kindda fun.
The only complain that I may have is my work schedule on this semester that has many days of 6 hours shift. At first, I thought that it would be nice since I can work fewer days to correct 20 hours per week. (in order to get in-state tuition, you need to work 20 hours per week) But it turned out to be such a pain because I found myself hardly managing time to study and practice.
Well, but I would say that I'm happy to work in the lab after all. ^__^;
